GOOD WILL HUNTING

Box office smash and boasting critical acclaim, this film has held its appeal since its release in 1997. The film tells the story of janitor Will Hunting, whose mathematical genius is discovered by a Professor Lambeau at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Already on parole,

Will is involved in an affray and the conditions to avoid jail include taking up studies in maths and entering into psychotherapy. He begins therapy with Dr Sean Maguire and as the  relationship develops, they both find themselves challenged by their pasts.

Good Will Hunting contains a stellar cast including Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Minnie Driver Ben Affleck and Stellan Skarsgård. Critics have said of the film:

It’s a movie that captures (in a way that perhaps an older screenwriter could not convey) the limitless possibilities of youth, a movie in which a character can tell another, without cynicism, “You could do anything you want. You are bound by nothing.” Jason Bailey, Vice, Dec 17 2015

Adding moments of erudition and salty wit to a feelgood tale proves to be a winning formula. Edward Porter, Sunday Times, Mar 13, 2023.
