WELCOME TO WMIP FILM CLUB
We meet regularly online (once every couple of months) and bring analytic thinking to discussions on a range of films. Group members suggest film and at the end of each session we draw the title for our next session. Films are introduced by the proposer who invites the group members into an exploration from a psychological perspective.
This film is available to watch on Prime Video £2.49, Apple TV £3.49, Rakuten TV £3.49, Sky Store £3.49
Starring: Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins, Alec Baldwin and Peter Sarsgaard and a supporting cast.
BLUE JASMINE
2013 American black comedy drama that tells the story of a rich Manhattan socialite who suffers a psychological crisis after her wealthy husband loses his fortune. She is forced to move into her working-class sister’s apartment in San Francisco and grapples to come to terms with her losses as she attempts to start over. Heavily inspired by Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire, the film is a fascinating study of an affluent woman stubbornly trying to cling to a gilded past while facing the reality of her own downfall.
Drawing plaudits from audiences with Rotten Tomatoes writing “Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine finds the director in peak late-period form” and the San Francisco Chronicle writing “Blanchett in Blue Jasmine is beyond brilliant, beyond analysis. This is jaw-dropping work, what we go to the movies hoping to see, and we do every few years”.
