The Training in Contemporary Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Please note TCPP is not receiving applications at this time.

The TCPP has been offering training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy in Birmingham since 1990 under the aegis of the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy. Our training sits within the best traditions of psychoanalytic thinking and practice. It also incorporates the richness of new contemporary thought.

It offers a training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adults to a standard which, if completed satisfactorily, will enable course graduates to apply for registration with the BPC (British Psychotherapy Council). Graduates of this course could expect to use this qualification as the basis for both independent practice or within the NHS.

The requirements of the course include intensive personal therapy, which should start at least one year before and continue throughout the training, two supervised training cases, an experience of infant observation, a psychiatric placement and academic and clinical essays. There is a four-year programme of seminars often given by training committee members and senior associates of the training as well as visiting speakers. These take place in central Birmingham on fifteen Saturdays a year. Work groups and case discussion groups are held on the same Saturdays.

The Course has an equal opportunities policy and does not discriminate on grounds of age, gender, marital status, race, class, culture, religion, physical disability or sexual orientation.

If you are thinking of training with us, or would just like more information, please feel free to approach the Committee informally though Mrs Carmela Billingham, TCPP Administrator, Tel : 0793 925 5534 email: tcpp@wmip.org and we will be pleased to discuss further any aspects of the training with you.
